Nike and Jordan Brand are constantly releasing new sneakers virtually 24/7. Some releases stand out more than others. This August, there will definitely be some noticeable Nike and Jordan releases to keep an eye on and potentially pick up.

Nigel Sylvester x Air Jordan 4 RM Driveway Grey

The Nigel Sylvester x Air Jordan 4 RM was an instant hit with the Fence Green colorway releasing recently in July. The unique adaptation of the Air Jordan 4 brings a new cut and a distinct look. Sylvester’s lifestyle and his time spent riding his bike on his grandma’s driveway as a kid influenced the new version of the Air Jordan 4.

The Driveway Grey colorway is sure to draw tons of attention on August 7th, when the sneakers retail for $150.

Nike Air Max Sunder Highlighter Green

Initially released in 1999, the Nike Air Max Sunder is receiving tons of attention as numerous colorways are being re-released this year. Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the silhouette, Nike is bringing back some familiar colorways and new iterations. A collab with CDG definitely turned heads, but other versions are drawing more attention.

Colorways like the Highlighter Green releasing this August and the Canyon Gold releasing later this fall are definitely some of the more noticeable Nike releases of the latter half of 2024. The Air Max Sunder didn’t gain too much traction when it was released in ’99. However, the retro/tech look has been popular as of recently and has brought a spotlight to the silhouette that hasn’t been seen before.

A Ma Maniere x Air Jordan 3 Black

A Ma Maniere and Jordan Brand team up once again on the Air Jordan 3. Black paired with flat pewter and violet ore stays true to the muted tones of numerous AMM collaborations with Jordan Brand. An aged midsole complemented by suede mudguards give this iteration of the Jordan 3 a fresh look.

The violet ore tongue pops but not too much. A satin sock liner gives this pair a luxurious feel. These sneakers will definitely be one of the best Nike and Jordan releases of August 2024.

The A Ma Maniere x Air Jordan 3 Black releases August 21st for a retail price of $250.

Nike Kobe 9 EM Low Halo

An all-white Nike Kobe 9 comes out later this month just in time for Kobe Day. The Kobe 9s display Kobe’s signature on the lateral heel is added to complement the Lunarlon-cushioned midsoles. The Kobe 9 was originally showcased on December 4th, 2013. Numerous colorways of this silhouette are distinguishable amongst the global basketball community. Kobes have always been sought after basketball sneakers, but have skyrocketed in terms of popularity after the late Italian-born, Laker legend’s tragic death.

Nike is releasing the Kobe 9 Elite Protro Halo which retails for $240 in men’s sizing ($120 GS) and the Kobe 9 EM Halo releases for a retail of $210 on August 23rd.

Alexis Sablone x Nike SB Dunk Low

After making history and becoming the first female skater with a signature shoe with Converse in 2023, Alexis Sablone is teaming up with Nike on a pair of SB Dunk Lows. With skating returning to the Olympics Summer games, Sablone was in charge of designing federation kits for the United States and Japan. She also led the fan apparel collection to support the worldwide skating community.

A gravel-like texture upper paired with green hues, a green outsole, and an off-white midsole gives this pair a unique look. Similar to the Converse CONS As-1 Pro, the Alexis Sablone x Nike SB Dunk Low features a tearaway upper which reveals more fuschia details. These SB Dunk Lows round out some of the best Nike and Jordan releases of August 2024. Sablone’s collab with Nike will be released at select skate shops and SNKRS at the end of the month.

Jordan Brand releases timeless and classic models and colorways every year. A rather recent phenomenon is people purposely dyeing their sneakers to look “aged” has made its way to the largest scale possible. Air Jordans look amazing new but something about a perfectly aged pair hits different. Natural yellowing through oxidization is inevitable on countless pairs. Jordan Brand has capitalized on the aged look with their “reimagined” collection.

A few Reimagined Air Jordans stand out more than others because of the near perfect execution by Jordan Brand.

Air Jordan 1 Chicago Reimagined Lost and Found

The Air Jordan 1 Chicago is one of the most timeless and sought after Jordans of all time. You can even argue that the original Chicagos are one of the most coveted sneakers known to man. Especially since this Jordan only re-released twice (1994 and 2015) since its inception in 1985, the Lost and Founds were already a hit before they hit the market.

Although the Air Jordan 1 Chicago Reimagined Lost and Found isn’t labeled as a retro release of the original Chicagos, they are still a unique pair that combines specs from the 1985 and 1994 pairs. Cracked leather and slightly aged midsoles paired with the timeless black and red combo makes for a special release of the Chicago 1s.

Air Jordan 4 Bred Reimagined

The “Bred” colorway is one of the most iconic color blockings in Jordan history. Any time the black and red color blocking hits a timeless model, sneakerheads everywhere will rush to get their hands on a pair.

Some sneaker enthusiasts prefer specs as close as possible to original modifications. Others appreciate any version of timeless silhouettes.

Before the Air Jordan 4 Bred Reimagined officially released, many people had split opinions on the updated design. Many weren’t feeling the leather instead of the traditional nubuck on this pair. However, countless opinions changed once pairs hit hands earlier this month. A timeless look with a new twist makes for a unique version of the Bred 4s.

Air Jordan 3 Black Cement Reimagined

One of the best sneakers of all time and one of the best Jordans ever made. This classic will never go out of style. The Air Jordan 3 Black Cement is a timeless and recognizable pair of sneakers that will always be highly respected.

Rumored to release towards the end of the year, this pair will be highly sought after for sneakerheads all over. As long as the upper material doesn’t get changed from the classic leather, this release will be eyed by many. The reimagined release of the Black Cement 3s should be even more sought after than the similar rendition of the White Cement Jordan 3s.

I still have my 2018 pair and they are COOKED. I’ll be waiting patiently for this reimagined version of the Black Cement 3s.

February’s Five Best Releases For Jordan Enthusiasts

Every year typically starts off with a slow January in the sneaker world. Things don’t start picking up until mid to late February especially for Jordan Brand. Some of the best releases in February are without a doubt Air Jordans year in and year out.

February 2024 already has some highly anticipated sneaker releases. With the NBA All Star Game taking place in February every season, Jordan Brand typically centers releases around that weekend. Sneaker releases start to pick up more throughout the spring and often hit their peak in the summer/early fall.

Air Jordan 2 Low Python

As a homage to the 1987 Nike Air Python, these Air Jordan 2 Lows bring a timeless look to an underutilized silhouette.

The Python colorway hasn’t been prevalent since the return of the Air Python in 2013. This pair adds a unique look to a neutral colorway. Light brown and gray snakeskin pattern is visible on each side of the sneakers.

A sail colored midsole sits atop a light gray outsole to complete the natural look. The Air Jordan 1 High ’85 silhouette has been extremely popular for justified reasons. The cut is as close as possible to the original Jordan 1.

The Metallic Navy colorway was sought after and highly popular amongst countless Jordan enthusiasts. Although this pair won’t receive as much attention, a metallic colorway doesn’t appear too often on Jordan 1s.

Air Jordan 1 Royal 2017 vs. Air Jordan 1 Royal Reimagined

Classic color blocking never goes out of style. The Air Jordan 1 Royal is one of the most well-known and sought after Jordan colorways of all time. New styles come out every year, but nothing can compare to the classics.

Jordan Brand has been pushing out “reimagined” pairs recently. The concept gives classic colors a breath of fresh air. However, the new sneakers aren’t hitting the same for everyone. They require a certain level of appreciation; otherwise they are just another concept that can be easily under-appreciated and undervalued.

Royal History

It’s no secret that the Air Jordan 1 came out in 1985. However, it is not as well-known that Michael Jordan actually never wore the Royal 1s on an NBA court. Having spent most of his career in Chicago, MJ typically wore Bulls’ colors (red, white, and black). So how did the Air Jordan 1 Royal become so iconic and one of Jordan’s favorite color combinations?

The Royal 1s were actually one of the first pair of Jordans the public saw MJ wear. One of the first Air Jordan posters shows Michael Jordan wearing the Royal 1s with a matching royal and black sleeveless Flight suit on a runway. The iconic photo taken by Chuck Kuhn sparked the sensation surrounding one of the three original Air Jordan 1 colorways (the other two- Chicago and Banned).

The only picture of Jordan wearing the Royal AJ1s on court was when he was playing a pickup game on a cruise ship. The iconic photo shows MJ wearing the sleek Flight suit made famous in the original poster along with the original Air Jordan 1 Royals.

Although Jordan never wore the royal and black classic in an NBA game, the sneakers still became an instant classic. Since 1985, the Royal AJ1s have been re-released multiple times. Sneaker enthusiasts everywhere appreciate the original Jordan 1 colorways; if they didn’t exist, there wouldn’t be all these new collabs and color combos coming out every year.

Air Jordan 1 Royal 2017

Every so often Jordan Brand re-releases classic colorways. Every time a new release comes out, people instantly compare the newest version to the previous and even several prior releases. While some re-releases are better than others, nothing can top the originals. The 1985 Royal 1s will always be superior to other versions just like the original Chicagos and Breds compared to their own re-releases.

Instead of solely comparing the 2017 pair to previous releases, the main focus will be on what makes this pair so special and unique. With a release date of April 1, 2017, the Royal 1s quickly became one of the hottest Jordan 1s to drop that year with a retail price of $160. Following the Bred 1s release in September 2016, the Royals were highly anticipated for obvious reasons.

Sneakers in 2017 weren’t nearly as mainstream as they are today. If the same Air Jordan 1 Royal released today, they wouldn’t be as appreciated for many reasons. First, many new “sneakerheads” in today’s age don’t nearly appreciate original colorways as collectors who have been around for numerous years. Also, the market is so saturated right now; releases come out virtually every day.

Many people won’t feel as bad about missing out on a pair in 2023 compared to 2016/2017. Now, a new release is right around the corner. The AJ1 Royals will always be a classic no matter what shape or form they come in.

Air Jordan 1 Royal Reimagined

Reimagined pairs have been a new commodity on the sneaker market. After the release of the Lost and Found Jordan 1s and the Air Jordan 3 White Cement Reimagined, Jordan Brand has quickly realized a way to capitalize off a trend. The Air Jordan 4 Bred Reimagined is expected to release early 2024 as well.

The AJ1 Royal Reimagined doesn’t have as much hype as other Jordan Reimagined pairs, but these sneakers are still a solid option for any royal fan. The materials are different from what is generally expected on an Air Jordan 1. With a full suede build instead of the tradition leather construction, things already take a different approach to the classic colorway.

Also, the Royal blue on this particular pair is much brighter and vibrant than the Royal blue on the 2017 AJ1. Sneaker enthusiasts sometimes get hung up on tweaks and modifications amongst releases like materials and colors. However, at the end of the day, every release isn’t supposed to be identical.

The Reimagined Royals aren’t meant to be a copy of the originals. They are reimagined for a reason.

The Air Jordan 1 Royal Reimagined takes a unique approach as the sneakers are a refreshing twist on a classic colorway. This pair definitely isn’t for everyone; however, they are extremely accessible and plenty of pairs were produced.

The ‘Royal’ color block is one of the most iconic colorways in the history of the Jordan Brand. Sneaker enthusiasts will continue to debate which re-releases are the closest to the originals. However, if people take the time to appreciate the history and multiple iterations of the Royal 1s, they will be able to fully understand the cultural significance of the three original Air Jordan 1s.

New colorways continue to come out every year. Countless colorways are influenced by the Chicagos, Breds, and Royals. Jordan Brand will always come out with releases that appeal to the masses. Every now and then, colorways come out that will break barriers and push boundaries. However, the OG colorways will never go out of style. Jordans wouldn’t be where they are today without the influential originals.
